🧩 Event Overview

Get ready to build, create, and compete during the Appalachian Fair’s 100th Anniversary! The Blue Ribbon Brick Build is a fun, creative competition for all ages.

👉 The Fair will provide bricks for the Live Build—just bring your imagination and building skills!

Participants can compete in two exciting categories:

• 🏗️ Pre-Build (build ahead of time)

• ⚡ Live Build (build live on stage)

🏗️ Pre-Build Category

Create your masterpiece ahead of time and bring it to the fair!

📍 Drop-Off: Museum Stage
🕔 5:30 PM – 6:15 PM
🏆 Awards: Approximately 8:00 PM

🏗️ Live-Build Category

Brick creations are created on stage during a specific time with bricks provided!

📍 Location: Museum Stage
🕔 Registration begins at 5:30pm.  First build begins at 6:30pm.

• Builds will be divided by age groups. Build time will be assigned at the time of registration.  Judging will take place following the expiration of competition times.

• May work in teams of up to 4 individuals.  Family teams must consist of at least 1 individual over 18 years of age.

🏆 Awards: Following the completion of all competitions.

🎯 Categories for Pre-Build Competition:

• 🌾 Agriculture Theme – Celebrate farming & rural life

• 🇺🇸  America 250 – Honor the USA’s 250th birthday

📏 Pre-Build Rules:

• Only LEGO® compatible bricks may be used (no glue, paint, tape, or other materials)

• Must be an original creation (no kits)

• Size Limits: Entries must be no larger than 12" x 12" x 12"

• Theme must include something related to Agriculture or America 250.

⚡ Live-Build Category Rules:

⏱️ Time Limit: Each group will have 30 minutes to build.

• Judging will take place at the completion of each age division competition.

• Bricks will be provided by the Fair

🧠 No instructions, photos, or plans allowed—just pure creativity!

• The theme of the build will be given before the build begins.

👥 Live-Build Age Divisions/Categories (Age on Day of Contest):

• 8 & Under

• 9–13

• 14–17

• 18 & Up

• 👨‍👩‍👧 Family Build - at least 1 member of team must be 18 or older (up to 4 members)

​

📲 Registration

Space is limited so register early!  If space allows, on-site registration will be accepted.

 

🏆 Awards

• Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each age category of the Live-Build.

• Prizes will be awarded to the 1st place entries of each theme category for the Pre-Build entries.
