DEPARTMENT 275 - WOOL SHOW

ENTRY DEADLINE AUGUST 5
Entry Fees: $2.00 per fleece
Entry and Exhibitor Fees must accompany Entry Form

1. All wool must be placed by 8:00 a.m., Saturday August 25th.
2. All wool exhibited must be shown within the year shorn.
3. All fleeces in breed classes must have been removed from purebred sheep recorded in their respective Registry Associations.
4. All fleeces entered must have been grown on sheep owned by the exhibitor.
5. Exhibitors may not enter more than two (2) fleeces in any class. Each fleece can be entered in only one (1) class.
6. All fleeces for exhibit are to be displayed in clear plastic bags. The management reserves the right to reject all fleeces containing an excessive amount of foreign materials such as tags, burrs, chaff, mothballs, seeds, and hay or straw. Fleeces are no to be tied.
7. The judge has power to classify and/or disqualify fleeces before making awards and also not award unworthy exhibits.
8. Judging of Fleeces: Quality or fineness must be typical of the registered breed represented. The fleece should be rolled so as to show fresh side out.
     A. Evenness of quality or fineness among the various pasts of the fleece.
     B. Length and strength of staple.
     C. Estimated clean weight
     D. Condition
     E. Character, including crimp and color
9. Entries must be made on the Livestock Entry Form which can be found on the fair website (www.appalachianfair.com) or in the center of the catalog, or obtained by calling the Fair office, at 423-477-3211
10. Fleeces may be removed after judging for anyone showing only in the Open Sheep Show and may be removed by those showing in the Junior Show at release time for the sheep.
11. Fleeces entered from commercial ewes are too be entered in the Other Breeds Classes.
